Sinfonietta

The CSMA Woodwind Orchestra «Sinfonietta», like the other representative orchestral ensembles of the CSMA, was born with the aim of reaching a level of interpretative excellence within the academic framework of wind music.

Founded in 2009, the vocation of the CSMA Woodwind Orchestra «Sinfonietta» is the performance of the wide and varied symphonic repertoire written specifically for the wind and percussion section of the symphony orchestra. Composers such as Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Berlioz, Strauss, Hindemith, Stravinsky, Rodrigo, or Messiaen among many others, and from many historical periods, have devoted an important part of their compositional legacy specifically to these music ensembles. The «Sinfonietta» has been progressively widening their program with alternative repertoires and by adding works composed by authors of their own conservatory. They have also included the participation of great soloists, some of whom are at times professors of our school as well.

Occasionally, this ensemble collaborates with string instruments such as keyboards (piano, celesta, or harpsichord), harps, accordions, or recorders, as well as jazz combos, electronic instruments, vocals, audiovisual, and other special effects. That allows them to tackle a versatile repertoire, ranging from original creations for symphonic bands to a contemporary or traditional repertoire for wind orchestras. All of this turns this group into a modern, young, dynamic, and high-quality ensemble, investing in the future.

The «Sinfonietta» Wind Orchestra of the Conservatory of Music of Aragón is one of the largest formations of the CSMA. It joins the experiences of musicians and creators trained in their own disciplines, aspiring as well to have its own space within the regular programming offer of any concert hall.

Its current conductor is Miquel Rodrigo.
